TTTS Awareness Month: Learn More
TTTS (Twin-to-Twin Transfusion Syndrome) is a dangerous condition that impacts multiple pregnancy. Although it only effects a minority of multiples, it is vital that the entire multiples community become educated about the condition and join together to support research and public awareness. During TTTS Awareness Month, I will be highlighting various resources and personal stories to focus attention on the issue.
Today, take a couple of moments to listen to this interview with Mary Slaman-Forsythe, the founder and president of The Twin to Twin Transfusion Syndrome Foundation. Judy Bogdan, whose niece lost one of her twin sons to the disease, interviews Mary in a very informative and frank discussion. Both women know firsthand the devastating consequences of this condition, and they share their stories and clarify the facts about TTTS.
If you feel compelled to contribute to this cause, you can participate in the Matthew and Steven TTTS Walk for the Babies. The walk is a virtual event; participants will walk in their own hometowns on December 7th. You can register to walk and raise funds, or you can make a donation to one of the other 2009 participants. The first annual Matthew and Steven TTTS Walk for the Babies raised over $12,000 with participants from all over the world. Contributions will be collected through the end of December 2009.
